DACA and the Military

Unauthorized immigrants are NOT currently allowed to enlist in the US Armed Forces voluntarily (although they may be drafted, if there is a military draft). People with work permits or “deferred action” are also ineligible for voluntary enlistment. By law, only US citizens; US nationals; lawful permanent residents; and certain other people are permitted to enlist.

Therefore, do not be mislead by a recruiter who tells you that you are eligible to enlist – as a person granted deferred action, you are not eligible to enlist.

For more information, call Aretz & Heise Immigration at (303) 495-2013.
